… calls on the federal government to expedite implementation plans in the interest of the Country.
The Spokesman of The Ijaw Yourhs Council, Comr. Ebilade Ekerefe yesterday on People’s, Politics and Power anchored by a seasoned journalist in AIT, Mr Emoni Amarere discussed the position of the Ijaw Youths Council in the ongoing renewed agitations for restructuring following the south south critical stakeholders meeting held in Port-Harcourt..
According to Comr. Ebilade, the issues of restructuring, relocation of IOC’s to the Niger Delta, due funding in the NDDC amongst others in the seven (7) point agenda raised by critical stakeholders and Governors of the region are not new but things we have been continually agitating for and it is so unfortunate that the interest of the federal government has only been pricked following the Endsars protest, hence this discussion.
He further noted, some of the questions that comes to mind is what has stopped the federal government from implementing the relocation of multi national companies to the region as it was promised by the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo? They keep giving frivolous excuses that the Niger Delta is hostile, which is completely falsehood, He added.
He further stressed, you will agree with me that, following the endsars protest that recorded mass destruction of public properties in some parts of the country, which we’re not against, the Niger Delta was relatively peaceful and calm which goes a long way to prove a point that we’re not violent in nature but that our agitations is centered on, a fair share of the nation’s proceeds for our people.
Equally, The nation is surviving today from the proceeds of our oil and gas but our welfare is totally neglected. To further inform you of how the federal government plays with issues of the Niger Delta region, the east west road is still wallowing in a very deplorable state.
According to him, for us as a country to make meaningful progress there’s a need for us to restructure the state to reflect true Federalism; to give way for individual regions to control their proceeds and make remissions to the Federal.
He went ahead to opine, the endsars to us is a metaphor for a restructured Nigeria, which is long overdue
He further said, the Nigerian maritime University up till date is still lying there with the national assembly, so pathetic how they have not been able to make it a bill and send to the president for his assent.
He also called on NIMASSA Boss to move her flooting Duke from Lagos to the original settlement, okrenkoko (Niger Delta), according to him, the relocation of the NIMASSA Dock will go a long way to absorb our teeming unemployed youths in the region.
He explicitly stated that, the Federal Government at all time treat issues concerning people of the Niger Delta with lavitude and as you can see Prof. Gambari is yet to brief the president of our 7point agenda arising from the stakeholders meeting. According to him, It will not be business as usual.
He puts it straight, we have done so much in maintaining peace in the region, which is evident in the volume of crude proceeds that leave the region on a daily bases, but with the ingenuity put forward by the Federal Government it will definitely get to the point we can no longer hold our boys back he further said.
