A group known as the Nembe Se integrity Group, has described the protest led against AITEO Eastern Exploration and Exploitation Company by the Opu Nembe (Bassanbiri) youths as an attempt to get back the cake they have already eaten out of envy and greed.
Spokesman of the group, Mr Toinpre Olaye who said it is very unfortunate that about a year and six months ago when their sister community of Nembe City (Ogbolomabiri) protested against the same Company operating the Nembe Creek Flow Station for neglecting the GMOU they had with the community, Kojo Sam and other youths from Bassanbiri community openly condemned the protest and commended the AITEO saying the company has fulfilled their own side of the GMOU and all its corporate social responsibilities.
Wondering why the same Bassanbiri youths who went as far as condemning youths of Ogbolomabiri on radio stations and scroll bars of National TVs for protesting against AITEO Eastern Exploration and Exploitation Company, will also lead a protest against the same company for same reasons they earlier faulted, Toinpre Olaye warned that youths of Bassanbiri should not allow themselves to be misled by the envy and jealous nature of one man, stressing that if they think deeply why they were asked to condemn the people of Ogbolomabiri who were only demanding for their tenants to keep their own side of the GMOU just like the Bassanbiri youths are doing now, they will know that somebody is feeding fat from their ignorance.
He said the both sister communities are so blessed that the AITEO in question operates and have their facilities in both communities noting that ordinarily the relationship between AITEO and one community has nothing to do with the other as both sides have different GMOU with the company.
The Spokesman said the fact is that those Bassanbiri leaders who condemned the protest of Ogbolomabiri people had already mortgage the Bassanbiri community for little crumbs they get from the company, saying it’s so unfortunate that the veil which was used in covering their eyes from seeing the benefits the community ought to have gotten has falling off their eyes.
