A Niger Delta human rights activist, Comrade Ozobo Austin has vehemently echoed his displeasures towards public office holders ove the sufferings of the Niger Delta region.
The president of the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, expressed his disappointments while addressing friends and well wishers on the occasion of his 40th birth anniversary.
The former Delta State House of Assembly candidate called for the recall and sack of all public office holders who do nothing than enrich themselves against the development of the region.
According to Ozobo;
It will interest you to know that a good son or daughter brings honour to the family and a bad son or daughter brings a disgrace to the family.
The essence of the arm struggle is to provide a political space for Ijaw nation and her people as to engender meaningful development, but these ideals have been defeated with the current crop of self-centered leaders in Ijaw nation.”
“It is a fact that bad leadership is the bane of underdevelopment, oppression, deprivation and militarization in Ijaw nation. The reason for political representation is to bring government closer to the people in a way of providing the dividends of democracy to the people.”
We have leaders that have less value for the public affairs. It is better not to have a leader representing us than to be represented by self-Serving leaders in corridor of power. The self-Serving appointees be sacked and elected ones be recalled.”
No wonder the constitution makes provision for recalling self-Serving elective position holders in the Government. In line with this provision, what should be the best thing to do when we detect such self-Serving leaders. To me, the best thing to do is to call for sack or recall of such self-centered political leaders, boo and stone them for bringing disgrace to the Ijaw nation.
“It is appalling that current Ijaw privileged leaders are now the oppressors, the colonial masters of our time. I wept seeing the turn of things in Ijaw nation. Ijaws are now the main problem of itself. We are the spoke in the wheel of progress. No one is ready to serve the public interest.”
Our leaders went to public office to serve their personal interests. Political or public offices are now turned to private companies or business centres. The pursue for personal interest has blind fold us and now we see public responsibilities as personal empowerment.”
Ijaw nation expectations have been cut off, no one talks about the general development of Ijaw nation or Kingdoms apart from personal development. From 2009 to date, no progress has been made in the struggle.
Our political office holders became our greatest enemies. They turned oppressors and colonial masters. The development of our people is not in their agenda. Building schools and skill centres are no longer fashionable. They have turned Ijaw nation to personal entity. Ijaw nation now their family circle where they decide issues at will.
They control the wealth of Ijaw nation to their personal pockets. No one seems important to them. They negotiate our destiny for their personal interest. They abuse our benevolent and continue to push the ladder against us.”
I call them the prodigal sons, the dishonest sons and daughters. They join hand with the military to kill and burn our villages. Our people are made homeless and put in perpetual starvation, yet they refused to talk. They use their positions to intimidate and oppressed the less privilege ones.
They do selective representation. If you are not their family member ,you are not recognized or given employment or empowerment. They are now more dangerous than our obvious fears.
Thherefore, I call on Ijaw youths and well meaning Ijaw leaders to come out en masse to call for the sack or recall of self-serving Ijaw political office holders for Ijaw nation to move forward and ride off bad leadership
Ozobo has been a persistent and consistent advocate for good governance and development in the Niger Delta especially with regards to Ijaw areas long made to go through the pains of government neglect.
